Dark Star 2013 Part 1 - Food and armies

This past weekend 9 of us traveled down to Minneapolis to participate in the Dark Star 40k tournament.

Allow me to list off the 5 best reasons to partake in this wonderful event. These are in a VERY particular order.

1) You get to eat Smashburger EVERY FUCKING DAY!
If it was legal in the state of Minnesota, I would marry Smashburger

2) You have easy access to cheap shitty American beer all tournament long.
We actually did good on beer this year. Only Charles bought a shitty box

3) You get to play in a huge venue with lots of spaced out tables with some pretty good terrain

2 bins per table
32 tables

4) You will get to meet and play some (hopefully) awesome and new people

Us with our new buddy Josh and Older buddy (from last years Dark Star) Seth

5) You will get to see and play some pretty slick and rad armies

Avengers Space Marines. Notice the slick Stormtalons

Yup. Those be paper

paper fucking Stormtalon

Captain Thor Lysander

This was a pretty cheesy army, but his power units were air brushed all pretty

This guy had 3 Helldrakes, flamers and screamers. POWER POWER POWER

Pretty awesome Crimson Fists. Pffft, this guy just "wanted to have fun". What a loser, didn't even find his list on the internet. Hrmph 1st company bullshit. Nobody likes fluff.

Command squad? Who uses Command Squads?

More 1st company

Lysander
Other than the this Attack Bike, the Termies, Command Squad and Lysander, the rest of the army was Scouts. Awesome job Josh!

Our very own Christian's IG with GK allies

Psyker Battle Squad

Tim Flander's awesome Space Marines. Made up from lots of Dark Angel and Black Templar Bitz
Tim's Servitor

Chaplain Warlord
Exorcists

Seth's Nurgle Demon Prince
Another Nurgle Prince

The rest of Seth's Nurlge Demons and Nurgle Marine allies
Broeska's Red Corsairs
Nice shading
Some nice Eldar

Dark Eldar flyer whos name I can't remember
Take that power gamers!

Lunch and beers during day 1. The tournament is right below us in the basement. Very handy

Brenden, Seth and Fabio
Supper at Barley John's. Great idea Seth!

Oyster appetizer

Chris and Darrell

Seth and Ryan

I ate so much Smashburger that I turned into a fat(ter) fuck

Periwinkle pasta. Best $25 I spent that night!
So there you have it folks. Part 1 of our Dark Star trip. Stay tuned for some pictures of epic battles of epicness!

30k for 30k

The 40kegger website is about to reach 30,000 hits. It is pretty exciting to see so many people tune in to what's going on around here.

To celebreate the 30,000 times our website has been visited, we want to showcase some of the great Heresy Era minatures/armies that people have completed or are currently working on. So, please send us some pictures of your models. Let's get a little 30k to celebrate our 30k.

Submit your pictures to either Greg@40kegger.com or JP@40kegger.com. Please include a small write up about your model/army, or maybe even some hobby tips about colors/techniques used.

40K Radio mentions the 40Kegger club and Astronomicon.

Hey everybody, this is my first post but hopefully not my last.

I just finished listening to the podcast called 40K Radio, and they gave a shout out to the 40Kegger club and to Astronomicon.
Romeo, Kyle, and Rick do a lot for the hobby, and I figured they deserve a shout out on this little blog as a thank you.
I recommend that anyone who is interested in 40K podcasts to check them out, if you don't already.  They are pretty funny and laid back, like most of the people here.  They also have a decent segment on this last episode talking about tournament play vs. garage gaming in 6th edition.  This is where they plug Astronomicon and the themed missions they have at their tournaments.

That's all for now

Tau, 40kegger 5 and Awesome Rob

New Tau pre-release novella on ebay sparking rumours of new Tau codex.

Rumours from the Apocalypse 40k :

A pre-release copy of the new Black Library novella "Shadowsun" is on eBay right now and rumors are all over about Tau being the April codex release.

RUMORS

shaso iceborn on Warseer posted this:
*There will be no new races (no Demiurge after all).  *Kroot will be expanded,  *New Vespid were play-tested I am awaiting confirmation as to whether or not they made into final print. *There are multiple fliers and and new units.
This post is intentionally vague until I can gain confirmation of units.

Shaso Iceborn also left a comment on Faeit 212:

For Tau lovers, I wouldn't worry about a backache in April as your wallet might just become a lot lighter.

Shaso seems to be a credible source and  I would tend to believe this rumor.  Call it wishful thinking maybe!

THE EBAY AD

Braden Campbell SHADOWSUN 1st/HB MINT Warhammer 40K Tau Novella Pre-Release

Jizzlefinger brings you SHADOWSUN by Braden Campbell. Published in 2013 by Black Library. MINT condition, brand new and unread. A nice surprise to find this 128 page Tau Hardback Novella sitting on the table at the 2013 Black Library Live! event. I can't find any other details about this book yet, all I know is it's a pre-release and have found vague mentions of it being out as a general release sometime in March, but have found no mention of it yet on the Black Library website. I'm guessing it will be released as a direct exclusive much like Yarrick : Golgotha Unchained and Flesh Of Cretacia.

THE BOOK

SHADOWSUN - The Last Of Kirku's Line

Commander Shadowsun, child of the famed Kiru and protege of the legendary Commander Puretide, is destined to lead the next phase of the Tau Empire's expansion... if she can survive the trials before her. Crash-landed on an enemy-held planet, with foes all around and a seemingly impossible mission to complete. Shadowsun is determined to achieve victory, even at the cost of her life. But when she receives a message that tears her world apart, Shadowsun must make a choice unthinkable to most Tau; to abandon her duty for the sake of family, or continue to fight for the Greater Good.

So there you go.  I know there are a lot of Tau players who will be very happy when the new codex comes out.  And I especially hope that GW pushes the Tau along fluff wise, giving them new technology, as it is cool to have a race that is constantly evolving (well, besides the Nids!).  Crisis Suits are due for a replacement as the Forgeworld models have been cooler for about 7 years now!

Loken
..................................................................................................................................................................

Are these rumours gonna turn out to be true? I have a bucket of Tau packed away in a closet and I'm torn whether or not I'm gonna start collecting again. If the "new" codex is a classic "Matt Ward Winningest Codex Ever", I think my Tau will be going up on Ebay. If it is a fun and ballenced codex, I may start playing again.

As of right now (March 8th, 2013 5:30pm) There are only 5 spots left in the next 40kegger.
Better register soon to

And Last off, here is Robs awesome new Wazdakka model.
