SG2 Laser Cutting - Local Laser Cut Bases and Terrain

Hi Everyone,

Byron here, most of you know me, but just in case you are wondering who is hijacking the blog today, I am a long time 40k and other miniatures game player.  Over time I have gotten tired of paying high shipping prices for mdf and plywood gaming supplies, such as wooden bases for historical games, buildings, movement trays, and even acrylic tokens and templates.  So I recently purchased a laser cutter of my own to produce my own bases, buildings and more.  I also had the idea to produce common items for local players at lower cost than we could order them for, and without shipping, handling, and duty.

Anyway, with Greg and JP's permission, I am posting a quick preview of some of my new items (with more to come) and some prices for comment or order.  Also listed last is an example of an item I will be donating as a prize for the upcoming 40kegger tournament.

Walls

You can always use walls in a game to provide some hard cover.  These are made up to be European style so that they can be used for historical or sci-fi games.  They are 24mm high.  Don’t forget though that since the base of the wall is counted in that and 3mm high (like most figure bases) the walls themselves are about 21mm high compared to a figure.  Figures are shown to show real life size.

The short walls are 75mm (about 3” long) and the long walls are 150mm (about 6” long).  The bricks are recessed about 1/2 a mm to make picking them out when painting easy, or you could just leave as is.

Individual walls with be $3 per short section or $6 per long section OR packages will be sold as 10 short walls or 5 long walls for $24.

I am working on a third set with gates and end posts as well, but that will come later.

There are 16 different short wall patterns and 8 different long wall patterns, and each wall is made up by putting 2 designs back to back, to there are LOTS of variations.

Shipping Containers - Large Crates

I always liked the idea of fighting in a shipping yard with tons of crates and boxes piled all over.  However, due to the cost of getting enough I had to resort to card stock ones in the past.  Normally Shipping containers in the right scale run between $12us and $20us each.  So with the idea of keeping cutting time and costs down, these are what I came up with for shipping containers.  They assemble easily and are solid as hell!  Way more sturdy and heavy then even I thought they would be.

Figures added to one of the pictures to show scale, but they are 5 1/8” long x 2 1/2” wide x 2 1/8” tall.

Came up that I need $8 each but if you are ordering more, I can do 6 for $45 for a little savings.  Which is way less than the others out there by quite a bit.  I know they are a little plainer than some, but they are solid and stack nice.  Also the top, side and end walls are reversible so you can put the pattern facing in if you wanted a flat surface to paint your own logos.

Tokens and Templates

The first job I was requested to do with the laser was some custom tokens for a friend that is going to a tournament for a game called Ronin that simulates samurai combat.  These tokens are 20mm round, cut from plywood.  As long as you supply the graphic layed out in a vector format I can cut custom tokens in any size or shape.  These were 20mm rounds in plywood for $5 for 10 (formatted graphic provides), the same in acrylic would be $8 for 10.

Also shown here are some samples in acrylic of a range marker for the X-Wing miniatures game and some sample tokens for 40k vehicle hits.

Bases

I know that the 40k community does not use a whole lot of wooden bases, but they are really common for most other miniature games.  I will be making and stocking all common sizes of wooden bases in 3mm plywood, or 3mm MDF on order.  I can also create any custom size you want.

Examples of prices are: 100x 25mm round or square = $10, 25x 40mm round = $5, 25x 50mm round = $6

For many other games different shapes are used such as squares, ovals, pills, or hexes, all of which can be done in any size.

Dice Tower

This was just a fun project to see what I could do, but has proven popular with everyone I have showed it to.  Tired of dice all over the table, getting into all the terrain, or rolling into and chipping your miniatures, this is the answer.

It is a dice tower with 4 angled "rollers" in it that you simply drop your dice in the top and they fall into the tray below suitably randomized.  Better yet, unlike most dice towers out there, this one is two pieces and folds up for easy transport.

I am selling them for $25 cut plain from 3mm plywood or $35 with any custom logo you want on it.  The logo shown in the sample here is for my Thursday night gaming group that I have played with for over 10 years. If there are groups of players that want the same logo, I can do them at $30 each with logo as long as there are 5 or more ordered.
PRIZE SUPPORT / SPONSORSHIP: This is the item that I will be donating to 40kegger as prize support for the event, and it will be custom engraved with the 40kegger logo.

Orders / Comments

If anyone is interested in any of the above items, or having any custom work done, please feel free to contact me at: sg2creations@gmail.com.  I will be setting up a website soon as well, and will share that when complete.

Scott im Choas! Vs the da da da na!

SCOTT!

VS

The Da da da na!

Now for a bit of back ground, what the hell is a Da da da na?  Well I told Scott when he was coming over I gunna show him my Da da da na!  After which quite honestly im surprised he showed up at all.

So as we set up I reveal my Da da da na!

Scott immediately threw the rule book at me.  The big one, with lots of pages in it.  I was excited, Scott not so much, as he asked for the rule sheet.

So after this small tussel we desided to deploy our shit.  We both chose the beat your face in objective.  Because well, thats how we roll!

Scott measuring.  Like he knows what those numbers mean!

After that Scott shoots, kills one killa kan.    That is all.  Then he charges forth, so confident!  I point to these guys on bikes, whats so good about them?  Scott responds they gotz melta gunz!  Huh I say.  So my killa kans start shoot their grotzooka's.  Scott never seen grotzooka's in action before.  Neither im guessing did his melta bikers.

  The result was ugly.

Melta bikers go down!
After that I pretty much wipe out half of the cultist squad too.  Who says Ork shooting isnt good?

Scott then has this bat thing, with a massive ass club on it.  Tells me its dam near indestructable.  He has spent all these resource points on it.  Buffed it beyond measure!  It was rumored that J.P. is having to spend countless hours in his basement with his graph's and solar charts just to try to nerf this thing!

However the demon prince never met a da da na da before!  The following melee was umm awesome.
Well thats that.

Killa kans cheer the mega dread on!

But wait there more!  If you act now, we will throw in a ANOTHER demon Prince for free!  Thats right for the low low price of dual 6's you too can get another Primordal annihilator for free!

Scott rolls the double six's.  I at the moment have no idea what is going on.  For future reference if your 40k opponent starts dancing like this.........its usually bad news for you.

Scott does this after rolling double sixes

So now this guy spawns or some crazy shit into a demon prince.  I dunno, Scott shows me the rule book, but Scott fails to realize thats is after 7pm, after 7pm I am not reading anything.  I only drink.  So I say no thank you, and drink more.

The demon prince attacks the da da na da!

That worked out pretty much like last time

The demon prince goes down in a crumpled heap again.  Killed that dam thing twice!

Now on the West side of the table there is this pimped out Rhino!  Full of really mad choas dudes!

battle wagon with deff rolla

The battle wagon slams into the rhino full of mad dudes and trashes it.  Mad dudes spill out and get gunned down by some happy shoota boys!

And that pretty much ended the game.  There was a couple cultists and a 2 oblits hiding behind some ruins for almost 2 turns while I shot at them.

Great game!  Orks win!

Oh yeah  then I had to pull Scott out of the snow bank in my front yard.

Yup u stuck!
Scott gets a little revenge because after I crawled into the snow to pull out the car i looked like this!

Great game!  Had a ton of fun.  Scott is a great guy, just another super awesome fun game of 40k thanks to the beer league!

Battle Report: Jordan VS Greg

“No, you will not throw my creation into the jaws of war, the Beast isn’t yet fully functional!  It could fault during the battle and all my work would be ruined.”

The raised voice drew the ire of a blood-armoured titan wielding a mighty axe and he stepped forward to exact penance from the offender.  “How dare you speak to Lord Veritas in such an insolent tone you heap of gears and wire.”  His voice hissed and spat the words like curses.  The brute raised his arm to strike a mighty blow when a voice stopped his actions

“Hold mighty Proelium.”  The words that halted the great warrior were filled with such conviction and power that for one to not obey the words seemed impossible.  “Coarguo is a powerful ally, and our guest, we do not wish to offend him, just as he does not want to offend me.  Remember Coarguo, that beast would not exist without my aid.  It was I that prepared the ceremony, it was I that supplied the offerings, IT WAS I WHO SACRAFICED MY MEN TO ACCOMPLISH THE GOAL!”

            “My Lord I…”

“ENOUGH!  This is the key to the war, the turning point.  All of the Imperial forces are arrayed against us and we must stand firm.  For if they break our defenses it will be the end of us.  My forces have made the push to secure the warp rift and enable you to bring your creation to life, and in doing so it’s strength has dwindled.  I need you and your creations now more than ever.  If we can hold them, if we can gain a solid foothold here, this will only be the start of the monstrosities you will create.  Will you lend me your strength to keep the corpse worshippers at bay?”

“No Veritas, I will not lend them to you.  My beast, and I, are yours.”

The beast in question is…my brand new Forge/Maulerfiend.  Actually, it`s so brand new that it didn`t even have a head yet, and Greg still let me use it.  What a guy!

This game starts off with some fluffy beer.  That’s right, I`m such a huge god damn dorky nerd that I brought beer themed on the storyline and armies.  They are…

Trois Pistoles and Blanche de Chambly are 2 beers from a brewery in Quebec.  Now this may seem familiar, that is because I had a beer in my very first game this season, against Dave, from the same brewery called La Fin du Monde.  This brewery puts a little story on the back of the bottle of each of the beers and I could not resist buying these ones.  The story of trios pistoles is about a small town that make a pact with the devil in order to build a church that has fallen behind schedule and the story behind Blanche de Chambly is about a nobleman named Chambly who had a big white castle.  Lo and behold, the day I got my wonderful new toy I had the idea that in placing the beacons around the rift in my previous game vs Lance, Veritas was able to make a pact and create the Forgefiend just in time to face The Followers of the Imperial Lie.  Then Greg tells me he has a bastion in his list and it almost seems like fate made me buy those beers instead of my nerdiness.  Plus the bottles were huge.

Anyway, onto the game and lets start with some army lists.  I had Veritas and the rest of my core along with the Forgefiend and his handler, the warpsmith Coarguo.  He also brought with him a pair of Obliterators.  As the pact was made and the Forgefiend created, the gods saw some unworthy followers and so I also had 2 spawn.

Greg had his core, with his MOTF and servitors hidden away atop the bastion manning the lascannon.  He also had a second 10 man squad all melta`d up and an attack bike with multi-melta.  The cherry on top was a new toy of his own, a Stormraven.  Greg also took this time to roll on the fancy chart of make me a better general table and got the ability to ignore cover.  Fuck.  Now his fucking lascannon is shooting at BS 5 AND ignores cover.

Deployment looks like this

And the first turn consists of his rhino moving up, and he kills a cultist with his lascannon of ``I don`t care if your in a ruin``, that is all.

Turn 2 is more exciting.  I get EVERYTHING from reserves.  I bring my spawn and the oblits in on my right hand side to support the cultists and then run the spawn right up the wall of the ruins.  My new fandangled toy comes in on my left and the Warpsmith follows right close.

He can`t see me with his lascannon of death

I shoot and destroy his Razorback, and the guys pile out unscathed.

During his turn he gets his new toy in and his attack bike, which comes in on my left right behind the Forgefiend and manages to blow off a weapon.

He then moves up his marines that got out of the razor...back...wait...a...minute.  1, 2, 3...10!?!?

I`ll tell you the gods honest truth, I did not notice this until I was writing this battle report.  A ROZORBACK ONLY HOLDS 6 MODELS GREG!  LOL!!  Anyway, these guys open up on the spawn and knock off a couple wounds.  I don`t remember exactly what the Stormraven does, and I`ll say that again over the next couple of turns.

Turn 3, my Warpsmith turns around and lays the smack down on that jabroni attack bike after fixing the broken weapon on the Forgefiend

My chosen move up and get out of their ride, and the spawn assault the 10 man marine squad that just bailed out of their trashed clown car after the oblits light them up with some assault cannon fire.  They survive, but so does one of my spawn, so that eliminates a turn of shooting from that squad.
My Forgefiend opens up on the Stormraven and accomplishes nothing.

His turn 3 sees his other tac squad come in on my right side right at my table edge and shoot at the oblits but they survive.  And his clown car squad kill the last spawn.  Again the Stormraven does nothing, at least they look cool.

Greg's Stormraven not exactly as shown.

Turn 4 my oblits turn around and unleash plasma cannon death on the tac squad in my backfield and kill 7 of them, and I think my cultists kill another one.
My chosen assault and wipe out his tac squad that were part of his core  Now it was about this time that I check the victory conditions and conditions for Faction Points and misunderstood the Faction Points.  I thought I had to kill his Core, but in fact I had to keep my Core in my deployment zone and keep his out.
This turn also see`s my Forgefiend accomplish as much as the Stormraven did.

His turn 4 is pretty limited, he shoots and assaults my oblits with his last couple marines and they get smoked, his HQ blasts away at my chosen and kills 1 or 2.  Finally, his Stormraven flies off the table.  He also calls his turning point and attempts to land all of the tokens on top of the bastion.

On, what turns out to be, the final turn of the game I move my chosen up, along with their rhino to get in bolter range of his HQ unit on top of the bastion and everything unloads into them killing everything except Argos.

As a last ditch effort to at least deny me some Resource points his stormraven comes back on the table and tries to take out Veritas.  He fails, but does manage to kill a marine.

So, the game ends with my cultists still sitting in my deployment zone winning me the game and earning me 3 whole Faction Points.  Greg`s Master of the Forge, Argos, is hiding in his fort and his stormraven is flying around aimlessly.

MY FIRST VICTORY!

After the battle Greg supplied me with large amounts of meat, and by that I mean he cooked a roast.  What an awesome host.  All in all it was a rockin good time

Thanks Greg

Thanks for reading this battle report and happy gaming everyone!

Misfits of 40K: Episode 8

HAPPY NEW YEAR 40KEGGER FANS!!

Ok, so I’ve been gone a while, but I’m back now and ready to take on a whale of a
project. I’m predicting that this is possibly going to be the longest episode so far so hang
on to your butts. Today I’m talking about…

Now, I am not legally allowed to print exact points costs for the items so I will be giving
a lot of comparisons. As much as ________ will be used quite a bit so if you don’t know
your army points then you might be a bit lost. All references will be made to the Chaos
Space Marines codex, so most of you who care will know what I’m talking about.

Lets get started with the Warlord Traits. Black Crusader is back giving every one near
the warlord Preferred Enemy Space Marines, as is the re-roll on the Chaos Boon table.
You can also pick up a fancy little one use template weapon called Gift of Balefire, It will
not Die, the ability to cause Instant Death on a to-wound roll of 6, and a Stubborn bubble.
Personally I’m not a fan of one use items/abilities, and my warlord is not a close combat
monster, so the balefire thing and re-rolling the chaos boon table are not high on my wish
list. I am a big fan of the last 3 though, and Black Crusader is always a great boost if
you’re playing marines.

On to the army wide rules! The biggest one is that Chosen have become troops. Many of
you think that Chosen are too expensive. Well, you’re right, but they are not that much
more expensive compared to regular Chaos Marines. I did some math and took a 10 man
squad of each making them as close to the same as possible. I gave them each a lightning
claw champ, 2 melta guns and VotLW, and I gave the marines close combat weapons.
The difference is only 32 points. I say only because for that 32 points you are getting 9
extra attacks and a solid Ld of 10 across the unit.

Not only that, but you also pay a premium for the ability to take 5 special weapons
regardless of the number of models. These can be close combat weapons, ranged
weapons, and one can be a heavy weapon. This means you can put out a very decent
MSU army with lots of elite flexible units.

You're hired...for whatever.

Another rule that boosts your MSU capability is the Bringers of Despair. Sounds scary
huh? It’s actually not that great. It allows you to upgrade a single unit of terminators to
have +1 WS and BS. The catch is that you have to take Abbadon as your warlord AND
pay an additional 6 pts per terminator. While having “supernators” at your disposal is
pretty cool, paying 300 points to make it happen is not.

Alright, alright, alright…

…the moment you have all been waiting for. THE LOOT!

The first item up for bids is the Spineshiver Blade. I really like this weapon because it’s
halfway between the Axe of Broken Friendships and Mace of Eternal Arguments, and yet
cheaper than both. While it is only AP 3, and it’s only special rule other than being a
Daemon Weapon is that is boosts you I +1, it really boosts the killing power of your
characters for only the cost of a terminator and you don’t need to be marked to a specific
god.

Next is one that I quite like, despite it’s huge point cost. For just under the price of a
Mutilator you can get a weapon that has the following rules: 2xS, Fleshbane,
Armourbane, Instant Death, AP1. The catch is that you only get to make a single attack
with this weapon. That right there means that you may not want to buy this for your
tooled up super killy Lord, but if you find that your Dark Apostle is writing checks he
can’t cash, this might be the tool for you. The Hand of Darkness is ideal for low attack
models that may be looking into the eyes of any big nasty monster. As mentioned, the
Dark Apostle is ideal for this item because he has a decent WS and Hatred so he has a
good chance of hitting you. He also has a 4++ so he has a decent chance at surviving if
your opponent goes first, and he can be given I5 with the Mark of Slaanesh so he may be
going at the same time or sooner anyway.

Next on the docket, and possibly the biggest deal, is The Skull of Ker’ngar. This item,
equal to the price of 2 bikers, gives the model Eternal Warrior and Adamantuim Will.
This is the only surefire way for Chaos Space Marines to get Eternal Warrior, and with
the amount of S10 and Instant Death weapons in the game today it’s getting more and
more important to protect your Characters. The question is, is your character worth
saving for 40Pts? If it’s a Demon Prince, it could be. It also boosts his Deny the Witch
to a possible 3+ if your Prince is souped to the nuts.

If your Daemon Prince looked this cool you'd want to protect it too.  Well the Skull of Ker'nger is like Armor-all.

Now since I run a level 3 Sorcerer in my army on a consistent basis, this next item is my
favorite. The Last Memory of Yuranthos is an item priced the same as the Spineshiver
Blade that is only available to a psyker. It gives him +1 to his Mastery Level, making my
Sorcerer a lvl 4, but, instead of rolling for a power, it automatically generates the
Sunburst power from the Pyromancy discipline which is a 6” Nova power that does 2D6
S4 AP5 hits that ignore cover and cause Blind. There are 2 other things that are
significant to this item. You can boost the range of the spell by 6” twice, up to 18”, by
spending another Warp Charge. If you boost the spell and fail the psychic test, your
character DIES, which makes the spell familiar a must. So really this power is the price
of The Black Mace because I don’t see you taking this item without the Spell Familiar.  In a recent game I played agains "big" Wes this power killed 4 Imperial Guard Squads ranging from 4 models to 9 models, in 1 shooting phase.

We are now at the bottom of the barrel with The Crucible of Lies and The Eye of the
Night, costing the same points as a single Plague Marine and a whole fucking squad of
Chaos Marines, respectively, AND the latter being a one use only item. The Crucible of
Lies is the cheapest item in the list and for good reason, in fact, they could have made it
FREE and it would still suck. This beauty lets you re-roll failed INVUL saves of a 1, but
lowers your toughness by 1. In this book, the best you can get is a 3++ and your still
failing 20% of the time, and now an Assault Cannon can kill you. You can counteract
this by giving the character a bike or a Disk of Tzeentch, but that only puts you back to
what you had. I mentioned before that I’m not a fan of one use only items, especially
when I can get a whole second unit for the same price, but The Eye of the Night, while
not good, has it’s perks. It is a weird version of a Hunter Killer Missile in that is has
unlimited range but with a couple, very key, special rules. It is only S5 AP4, large blast,
and ignores cover but it’s coupe de’ gras is the fancy named rule Haywire Maelstrom that
AUTOMATICALLY inflicts D3 penetrating hits on any vehicle or building touched by
the blast. GW really dropped it here, they should have either left it at it’s ridiculous
points cost and made it a regular shooting weapon that can be used every turn, or leave it
at one use per turn and cut it’s cost in half. Although I could see it having some uses in
Apocalypse games if, for some reason someone parks a couple superheavies right next to
each other.

So lets sit back and have a look at some army ideas and some uses for the changes and
upgrades that the Black Legion supplement brings us.

TACTICS!!!

As mentioned before you can build one heck of an MSU style army with each unit armed
to the teeth for bear. You can take units of 5 marines and get a heavy weapon AND/OR
multiple special weapons which is one of the reasons Plague Marines are strong. Bear in
mind you will want to keep more models without upgrades than ones with upgrades
because you want to have the spare models for allocating wounds.

Along with your MSU of elite and expensive units you can carry on that tradition with a
tooled up Daemon Prince. Giving him the Skull of Ker’ngar and the Spineshiver blade
along with all the other typical goodies he gets will be equipped with and it turns him into
a god damn blender. Of course he will attract a shit ton of incoming fire, so you have to
also provide other targets that are just as big and scary to pull some fire power away from
him.

Other than that, everything works pretty much like the regular Chaos Space Marines.

Thanks everyone for reading, Happy New Year and Happy Gaming!

PS:  If anyone has any other units out there that they want me to write an episode on leave a comment.
